Mother’s Day is around the corner and shops are piled high with cards, flowers, chocolates and nifty trinkets with “Mum” on them. But, however lovely it is to receive any of the above, there is only really one gift that most mothers agree they would like…….a decent lie-in.
Any mother, particularly one with small children, looks back with fondness at the distant memory of being able to stay in a snuggly bed of a morning luxuriating in the comfort of soft sheets and a down duvet with no children, or animals and no need to be transporting offspring somewhere cold and wet.
So, if you want to make Mother’s day special, let her have a bit of time to herself and actually get a full night of quality sleep. If you want to make it really special, make sure that the bed is up to scratch with sumptuous bed linen, duvets and pillows. It’s amazing what a difference it can make waking up with something really soft next to the skin. It’s like a gorgeous, lovely nest of tranquility and comfort; the stuff dreams are made of (particularly if you’re a sleep deprived new mother).
Breakfast in bed would be very welcome of course, a good coffee with a piece of sourdough toast smothered in home made marmalade or a delicious croissant from the bakery and some fresh fruit.
And of course the cherry on the cake of a good lie-in would be a good book with the peace to read it in…..
